PayPal Withdrawal Review on Maybank Visa Debit Card

Last week Friday I read on the newspaper on the newly launched Maybank Visa Debit Card. I am glad more local banks start offering Visa debit card facility.
To review whether this Visa debit card compatible to PayPal withdrawal, I spend sometimes to read on Maybank website, and here is the quick summary for your info:
- Max daily withdrawal limit: RM5,000.
- Daily accumulated purchase limit is RM500 and you can increase it anytime via bank's ATM or over the counter branches to RM5,000.
- First four withdrawal is FREE while a service charge of RM0.50 per transactions per card chargeable from the fifth cash withdrawal transaction onwards per month. However, service charge will be waived if your savings or current account has a balance of above RM5,000 at the time of withdrawal or the withdrawal amount is RM1,500.
- Service charge for withdrawal transaction for:
- Maybank's Group ATM in Singapore, Brunei and Philippines: RM2 each
- MEPS network: RM1 each
- Visa Plus Network: RM12 each
- Existing Maybank ATM card holders can convert their cards with the one time cost of RM12. It is also the same cost for card replacement.
- However, if you used up to 7 years (upon the expiry date, you will get the replacement at FOC).
- Earn 1 TreatPoint for every RM3 purchases.
- No annual fees, monthly interest rates or late charges.
The question now is: Can Maybank Visa Debit cards compatible to PayPal withdrawal? I search on the web and try to find any review on that, unfortunately, there is no review so far. The closest was Uncle FL Sam on his withdrawal to Maybank Visa Credit Card.
So, I called up this morning to Maybank Customer Service to find out the details. The Maybank staff that I spoke to also not sure whether it is workable. After 20 minutes checking and waiting, she told me "NO" for PayPal withdrawal.
I have not test myself on Maybank Visa debit card so if you have successfully withdraw through your Maybank Visa debit card, please let my readers and me know the details.

adrian oh @ 9:53 pm:
for a big bank like maybank, you really cannot expect their front liner (customer service) to know much. They are trained on general questions only.
So, when comes to something unknown, their supervisor will just tell them - "Just say NO". - as this is the safest answer.
Steven Wong @ 11:13 pm:
No Adrian! I didn't ask the branch front liner but call up to the Maybank Customer Service Toll Free Number, in case you overlook on my posting above.
I really hope someone just ignore this review and go ahead to test with the Maybank Visa debit card and let me know the positive outcome. Since Uncle Sam can withdraw on Visa Credit card, I think it might able be done on Debit card.

I try to add MBB Visa Debit card with Paypal, its not work. The following message will appear…
"This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer's customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card."
Faiz Wahab @ 10:44 am:
Yeah man… I already tried adding this card to my PayPal. And no.. this card can't be used to withdraw money from PayPal.

Thanks for Zahidi and Faiz Wahab for the feedbacks, I really appreciate for your feedbacks.

Since the Paypal withdrawal using local debit/credit card does not work, what is the BEST method to withdraw money in Malaysia.
Secondly does anyone use clickbank facility for online business in Malaysia?
March 26, 2008
lankapo @ 12:00 pm:
I am quite surprise that a big company like Maybank still charge you per withdrawal. But still cannot use for internet transaction or paypal..too bad
ajith,
you can use tune card to withdraw your paypal money.come over to my site and read all about it
Kay Kastum @ 1:00 pm:
Perhaps you need to have enough funds in it first. I used PBE bank one and had the same error message. Once I added like more than RM50 then it works like a miracle. Try lah. Who knows?
Ajith @ 4:55 pm:
Thank you Kay Kastum.
Any idea how to withdraw using clickbank account here in Malaysia?
EliteVillain @ 9:28 pm:
anyone tried the maybank debit card yet? Because it is the most economic debit card compared to PB.
I had made a comparison among 3 debit cards in Malaysia, so check it out.
http://prevalentco.blogspot.com/2008/03/malaysia-debit-cards-comparisons.html
By the way, if you wish to verify the debit card you will need to have to spend the $1.95 to Paypal only then your debit card is verified. I believe that is what Kay meant.

yoman @ 11:42 pm:
Have any1 tried this card for online transaction such as buying gifts outside of malaysia or pay for webhost / domain?
March 29, 2008
Faiz Wahab @ 12:26 pm:
I have tried doing internet transaction.. everything failed.
I have money inside my debit card since the card is linked directly with my Maybank account.. so no problem in that.
NextG from AmBank works fine with Paypal. So does Public Bank's VISA Electron.. so I guess Maybank really is blocking this card from being used in the internet. Or at least that is what their service agent told me when I called them.
EliteVillain @ 7:20 pm:
i don't know why unable to verify paypal account by using Maybank debit card, because the paypal itself did states that debit cards will be accepted if they have Visa or Mastercard logo. You can see this statement when you try to "add a card" to paypal….

Borneoguy @ 2:47 am:
Funny why they are blocking it anyway? To prevent fraud, security countermeasures?

Kay: Thanks for the speedy reply even before I manage to read all the new comments.
Ajith: You can refer to my other post about which cards can be used for PayPal withdrawal.
Lankapo: Which post show you are able to withdraw via Tune card? Can you show us?
Yoman: There are other users tried and the answer is "NO" at the moment. Why not you try other debit cards or Maybank credit card if you have one?
Faiz Wahab: We are on topic on "How to withdraw fund from PayPal". While you are talking about whether it can be linked to Paypal for online purchases. It is the bank discretion to allow you to purchase product online but not PayPal. Please don't mis-guide the readers here.
EliteVillain & BorneoGuy: There is nothing wrong with the PayPal but issue arises from the card issuer (which is bank). It is bank's discreation that allow you to use for internet purchases or overseas fund top-up.

This morning I applied and received my MayBank Visa Debit Card with a hope that it could be linked to my PayPal account. My Public Card Debit card was rejected earlier.
Unfortunately my MayBank Visa Debit Card was rejected too. My NexG AmBank MasterCard Debit Card was accepted about two years ago but I couldn't transfer my PayPal fund. Any suggestion? Thanks.

PB Visa Electronic how can link with paypal. I try several time it cannot leh. How????
August 4, 2008
Steven Wong @ 4:20 pm:
Hi Friwo,
Are you linking that for withdrawal or verification purposes? If you are for withdrawal, it is quite simple, just add your card and start withdraw the fund. I am getting my Public Bank debit card soon, will write here once I try myself.
If you are for verification, I suggest you try on credit card coz I never link it for verification purposes, although it can be done in theory.

I have check at Visa Homepage, for malaysian local bank, only CIMB and Public Bank can be use.
I asked Maybank customer service, the service maybe avaible in 2009 (the operator think).
So, just use both bank lah….
Beruang @ 9:24 pm:
If I'm not wrong, after recieve your debit card(Public or/and CIMB Debit Account), you must register the card first. Recently I visit the VISA homepage, there you can register your card for Internet Banking.
September 18, 2008
Steven Wong @ 11:57 am:
Beruang: I have no feedbacks about CIMB debit card, probably you can try it out. After you have successfully withdraw Paypal fund, can you please let me know so that I can update my blog for all readers benefits?
I am not sure what you mean by must register the card first after received. You mean register with VISA homepage or the bank internet banking facilities?
September 20, 2008
Beruang @ 3:43 pm:
Register at VISA? I'm just checking at VISA main page. And the homepage only give link to both our local bank. I'm not sure the card must be register or not. Last week, I've read some other blog (I forgot which Blog, just random search) say you must call the customer service center or just register online to register before using online shopping.

Withdraw PayPal To Maybank Visa Credit Card…
Last time I just wondering how i want to withdraw my paypal money to my Maybank accoun……
April 8, 2009
Carolyn @ 2:37 pm:
I want to complain chia-lat one, so please listen. I am from Penang. Applied my debit card in March. Kau-tim in 5 minutes coz slow-time of the day at bank too. The guy just photocopy my I/C blah blah and then said, "Tau pakai? Sama macam pakai ATM boleh beli barang tempat ada label VISA. And then can check online your transaction."
I was a happy camper - so put more and more cash into this particular Maybank account lah. All was fine til…you guessed it, SEMUA ONLINE TRANSACTION kena reject like KNS. OK….bikin malu saja, as if I'm an online fraud.
Now, here's the clincher : Every time you fill up petrol, IT DEDUCTS RM200 from your account first! Just what the toot gives Maybank the right to take RM200 from me???!!!! My minyak baru RM30 (small car ah). That's like how many percent service charge, hello?
Since I had the misfortunte of having to fill up at a station which was not my regular, I couldn't enter the amount I wanted to fill up and swiped my card twice….first, isi until 20, next 10. OK, maybe I'm bodoh but how the becky boy was I supposed to know they take RM200 each time you swipe? That doesn't happen with the old yellow ATM card nor credit cards, so why…..same types of interface, same type of magenetic strip, different system? Unless they want to rip thousands of people off a few ringgit here and there and go 'rolling' our money for 7 DAYS before giving it back.
Assuming you fill petrol twice a week, RM50 each…….by the middle of the month, you're going to be RM800 short (err….$600 technically). Still, this isn't fair, isn't it? Especially for people who really need the money for daily needs or cashflow. Lucky for me, I had to purchase reload the following day and logged online. Otherwise, I wouldn't have realized my account short RM370.
What do you guys think of this crap Maybank pulled up? There I was, pretty happy with the visa debit design (the cherries look nice mah) and wanting to put more cash into the account monthly. (Was tempted that amounts above RM5,000 won't get charged overdrawn.) And then this really kapalang thing happened.
I asked the CS if I can use it overseas then? She said…cannn….no problem, same like using credit card only. I asked, how would I know since the ATM didn't issue a receipt to confirm my request for international transaction and purchases, etc. She said I would have to go overseas and try. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry…..buy something overseas and kena reject with no currency on hand? Malu like crap, right?
I read another commment that this dude was in Japan and cannot draw from his account nor make purchases. WAH!!! Poor him!
I've asked the CS to please lodge a formal complaint and get back to me otherwise I'm taking a bus from Penang to Pudu and picket in fron the Maybank HQ everyday during rush hour (yes, I tak kerja, a lot of free time to bring down big, corrupt, corporations if I wanted to) and turn this into my personal crusade. The Maybank officer sold me a lie that it can be used exactly like any other Visa. Well, the verdict is out - Maybank visa card is a ripoff and an excuse to hold your cash over a predicted consumer behaviour : FILLING UP PETROL. This is really so ridiculous.
Anyone knows a lawyer? Wanna sue for misinformation/misrepresentation? Hmm..nevermind, I forget Penang got CAP!!! I'm going there and I'm going to write a full length article (this comment not panjang enough) with more kaw-English and translate it to Bahasa and Chinese. (Trilingualism finally came into good use.)
The worst thing Maybank can do is piss off honest people who want transparent relationships with merchants and retailers. Now I'm out for blood..I swear.

Mizan @ 6:28 pm:
This afternoon I rushed to Maybank to get Maybank Debit Card. Got it in about half hour. Great, I thought… now I can make withdrawal from PayPal.
But when I tried to register this debit card on PayPal website, it failed. So I called Maybank to get clarification.
I was informed by Maybank that their debit card in not ready for internet transaction. It will be sometime later this year before it will be ready for that.
So, in conclusion, Maybank Debit Card as for this moment is not useable for withdrawal from PayPal.

October 16, 2009
Steven Wong @ 12:12 pm:
@Herwan, for purchase transaction, it is best to refer to the bank directly.
Withdraw via tune money is not an good idea as it charge you on every transactions. Why don't you use either Public Bank, Maybank or Al-Rajhi Bank?
November 4, 2009
Eric Ng Ming Keong @ 7:44 pm:
Dear @Herwan,
Steven Wong is right. Withdrawal via tune money is not an good idea as it charge you RM1.15 on every transactions and Maximum a Tune Card can hold is about RM5,000.00. Using either Public Bank, Maybank or Al-Rajhi Bank is a more preferred method.
However, you can still link your Tune Card to PayPal.com
=======================================================
1) Go to www.paypal.com
2) After login, click on "Withdrawal"
3) Then Click "Withdraw funds to your card"
4) Register your Tune Debit Card Number and other information.
But I suggest you directly key in your Local Bank (Maybank, Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, etc) Account Number into PayPal.com
1) Go to www.paypal.com
Key in the Amount you want to withdraw from PayPal
2) After login, click on "Withdraw"
3) Then Click "Withdraw to your bank account". Make sure you see the word "Banks in Malaysia"
4) Key in your MEPS Bank Routing Code. If you are using Maybank, then the code is "MBBEMYKL"
5) Key in your Bank Account Number.
6) Re-key in to confirm your Bank Account Number.
7) Click Submit and click "Add Bank Account"
9) Click "Continue"
and you are DONE… I have tried. It's working:-
Options Processing Time Cost
============================
Withdraw to your own local bank account (Banks in Malaysia)
takes 2-3 Business Days
Free (no charges at all)
If RM400.00 MYR or more is withdrawn

If less than RM400.00 MYR is withdrawn
