Lately, I was asked to look into the issue of the wordpress editor and some of my students’ request to get a better tool for writing. I mentioned about using Semiologic WYSISYG Editor recently, but this is not a free tool.
I came across this window live writer and tested myself. It is really impress me a lot and I really like this new editor compare to wordpress default one.
Some of the good features of windows live writer:
- Write and edit contents from your local PC,
- Advance editor which offer to create tables,
- Insert hyperlink,
- Insert Picture,
- Insert Tags,
- Insert Video.
Eventually you can even add plugins if you want to have a better, powerful features. There are many plugins available for download, I have downloaded some useful one such as:
- Digg This,
- Insert Amazon,
- Insert Emotion,
- Insert Symbol,
- Smily,
- and many others.
Besides that, you can use one write to manage all your blogs, this is good for those who manages more than one blog, you can write and post easily.
You can even perform speck check after you have create a post. Lastly, you can easily switch in between normal, web layout, web preview or HTML code view.
It works exactly like you are in your wordpress blog admin area. The only inconvenience I discover is I can’t use my All-In-One SEO Plugin here.

I have never heard of the Semiologic WYSIWYG editor. Are there any features that would make you recommend using that versus the Live Writer product that you mention above? Obviously other than the cost? Thanks.
Steven (Not me): Semiologic WYSIWYG editor is part of the Semiologic package and it is selling at $295. However, if you don’t have the budget for buying this piece of software, you can use the windows live write which did a pretty well job. I am using it to write all my blog posts from now on.

Yeah, this is a better option compare to wordpress text editor. In fact, I am using it until now and still couldn’t find a better one (normally if I find the thing is good and I won’t go and find replacement, so far still happy with window live writer). Hope you can benefited from it very well.
Btw, are you a MM grad? You look familiar, aren’t you?
