AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes Joins The Corporate Blogging World

Last Saturday I read the The Star paper about Datuk Tony Fernandes also join the blogosphere, become the latest CEO blogger in Malaysia.

tony-fernandes-blog

According to his first blog post - Welcome Aboard, the reason he setup this blog is to provide another platform to keep in touch with people despite of his busy schedule. With the started his blog - The Entrepreneur, I believe there will be more and more corporate CEO would join the boat soon.

In fact, I have conducted a research when I was preparing this write up, I found out there are 2 more blogs that setup by AirAsia and TuneMoney.com executive - Tengku Zafrul.

AirAsia's corporate blog on the other hand, believe written by the staffs of AirAsia. They setup this blog probably inspired by Malaysia Airlines moves on setup the corporate blog early this year. In fact, TNB also have started corporate blogging same time with Malaysia Airlines blog but gain less popularity since the launch in April 2008.

CEO bloggers are very common in overseas. Corporate CEO like Randy from Boeing, Edison from GE Global Research, Jonathan Schwart from Sun Microsystem, and many others have been blogging for years from now. Malaysian CEOs begun to look into the usage of corporate blog as the unique branding recently, probably after the politics tsunami in March 2008.

If you want to find out more overseas ceo blog examples, do check out the the list of the top 15 corporate blog according to Mario Sundar and top 10 CEO blogs by Corporate Leaders Blogs. There are plenty of corporate blogs example there.

Hi Mr Tony,

Im here to drop you a message is regarding the on time guarantee. I have been drag at macau airprt for more than 4 hours for your flight delay without any notification to us. But you staff said they have drop sms, email and try to contact us. But do you think that during the vacation would you carry the laptop & check your email all the time. And yet your staff never follow up on our case & leave it a side without concern.

Is this the guarantee service to the consumer??

I wish you can read my message here

Dear Sir,

Sub: Introduction of International flights to Vizag(India).

Visakhapatnam widely known as vizag in the northren part of Andhra pradesh state is the biggest and fast growing city of the entire vast East Coast line of India after Chennai and Kolkata. Vizag's geographical location and existence of deep sea ports has made for its allround developments. Now the city which is exactly situated at the centre point betwen Chennai and Kolkata Airports is definitely calls for the interantional flight operations. The city is famous for its sea ports, steel, Pharama, petro chemical, texitel and many more major and minor manufacturing industries and export processing zones. The city is also main attraction for domestic and interntaional tourists for its beautiful sea beaches, natural sceneries and film studios Its location is very near to bordering districts of neighbouring states Chattisgarh and Orissa.

Moreover Telugus(Andhrites) accounts for second highest after Tamils amomg the Indian population in Malaysia and importantly most of them originated from northern part of Andhra Pradesh. For them Vizag wll be more convenient other wise they have to depend upon the Chennai and Hyderabad Airports making long journeys to reach those Airports. Vizag airport upgraded modernized with its newly constructed terminal, increased runway, night landing facilities and ready for international air opearations since some months. If the international flights introduced from malaysia to vizag and vice versa, or any transit flights, it willbe much beneficial to the huge north Andhra population and neighbouirng state air passengers.
I request MAS Airlines, Air Asia, Indian Airlines to introduce the international flights to vizag at an earliest possible to mitigate the problems faced by the concerned huge number of air travellers.

Thanking You,

Your's Sincerely,

Allu Narayan Rao

Of course, in blogging there is frequently an opposing voice, that of the consumer and/or advocacy groups, so with respect, Steven, you did neglect to mention the last, the unofficial 'AirAsia' blog: http://airasiaannus.blogspot.com/ As they say, 'Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia' Thanks to you.

Dear Mr. Tony,

I have been a long staunch supporter of Air Asia by taking trips all over the world on a high frequency and many of my colleagues fly with Air Asia as well, the service on the flight is good and the flight comfortable and smooth. Thumbs up on that.

However the same can't be said about the management of your call centre, I thought banks had bad call centres but Air Asia has the worst call centre ever and should be given that award. I made a slight mistake in my booking date and 5 minutes later I wanted to ammend it and called the call centre and to my astonishment it costs RM90 to make a small change, now we know how Air Asia makes its money, by fleecing the public on its so called non administrative charges. I have run call centres before and I must say this is the WORST RIP OFF EVER

I asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold for like 30 minutes before the girl came on line and said sorry all our managers and supervisors in a meeting, Wow all in the meeting at the same time, Mr. Call Centre head, is that how you run your ship, that's real sad if managers too lazy to take calls give lame excuses as this, may we need to remind call centres that customers are the reasons you all have a JOB!!!!

Carry on the sad state of the call centre management, she comes back after putting me on hold for another 30 minutes to say one of the managers will call back within 24 hours, wow what a great management strategy to ensure the customer will get fed up and forget it.

Mr. Tony, is this how you had vision your call centre to overcharge the public in a very discreet manner, well I understand if it was like a day later or 30 minutes later I called but 5 minutes later, RM90, that is just sad for an award winning airline. Secondly is this how Air Asia Call Centre is groomed, to treat customers as an inconvenience, thats even worst.

Winning all the awards in the air is great but losing the battle on the ground is bad for business, please do something if you do really care about the public as you have said. Winning the battle in the air is only part of it, what about the ground(call centre)??

Make the change now before the cancer spreads.

Cheers.

AirAsia boleh?

I was contemplating whether I should write to you or the press.
Eventually I concluded that it could be more constructive to write to you.

I hope that some improvement can come out of my feedback, for the benefit of other Air Asia travelers. As for me, it doesn’t matter whether anybody give a damn – since I will not be flying AirAsia anymore.

I traveled with my 90 year-old mother on AirAsia AK5802, from Singapore to Penang on 22nd Dec 2009. Despite reaching the airport about 2.5-hours early, there was already a large crowd checking –in . Queuing was rather disorderly and my check-in counter had multiple queue. Eventually, things were sorted out and my check-in completed. Things had not started well for my holiday trip and I left Changi airport, leaving what had happened behind me.

Departing from Penang on the 25 Dec 2009 on AK 5806, rued my Christmas Day.
I arrived 2 hours early. Check-in was problem free with a smaller crowd. I paid for a wheelchair, but noticed that it had only one footrest. I brought this to the attention of the Sales Counter staff and requested for a proper wheelchair. Regrettably, I was told that nothing can be done, since all have been hired out (I am not sure how many wheelchairs AirAsia has, but I noticed later that the only other wheelchair-bound AirAsia passenger was using her own wheelchair.). I was prepared to forgo the wheel chair, but could not get an alternative.

As I wheeled my 90-years old mother in the departure area, I could see that some airport travelers were amused, to see this wheelchair for the one-legged. Of course your AirAsia emblem was clearly displayed on its side. My mother’s discomfort on the wheelchair was extended when the departure time was delayed by an hour.

Upon landing at Changi airport, we were stranded in the aircraft cabin for about 15 minutes because there was no wheelchair ! (even though I had earlier made the request during check-in). The captain was kind enough and allowed us to wait for the wheelchair and not eject us from the aircraft. However, I felt embarrassed and apologetic as I pass the passengers who had been delayed in the departure lounge.

On reflection, I get what I paid for – perhaps more. I had paid for check-in luggage, seat selection and wheelchair. I got all those. But I had never bargained for the special wheel chair for the one-legged, the 1-hour flight delay and being stranded in the aircraft at Changi airport.

It had been an unfortunate experience for us traveling on the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline.” Maybe, you could wish me better luck with other airlines.

Thank you

On 24th Jan 2010 at 1000, I came to Air Asia Academy for 2nd Interview for the post of Air Asia Cabin Crew.
Unfortunately, I was refused by the security who had inform that the entry for candidates was open at 0800 and closed at 0900.

I explained to them that I just arrived from Amsterdam same morning on MH17 for a flying duty. They told me to come again next time and did not let me in.

I am sincerely hope that you will give due consideration for the next interview if any. With the slogan ` Now Everyone Can Fly` I do believe that AirAsia is unique and I`m looking forward to intergate my current job now to AirAsia.

Thank you
